Preakness 2026: While still a maiden, Ocelli's Derby run proved he belongs

LAUREL, Md. – Finishing third in the Kentucky Derby is obviously not as good as winning. But for the connections of Ocelli, their colt’s third at 70-1 as a maiden in the 152nd Kentucky Derby two weeks ago at Churchill Downs felt pretty satisfying.

Ocelli, who only drew into the Derby off the also-eligible list two days before the race, made a sustained rally under Tyler Gaffalione that carried him from 17th to the lead inside the sixteenth pole. The lead was short-lived, however, as Ocelli was passed by Golden Tempo and Renegade, ultimately beaten one length at the wire.

Ocelli, Amazing 3rd Place Finish at the Kentucky Derby at 70-1

Ocelli finished third in the 2026 Kentucky Derby at 70-1 odds, completing a historic run as a maiden (winless horse) who drew into the field late after Fulleffort scratched. Trained by Whit Beckman, the bay colt showed strong closing speed to finish behind winner Golden Tempo, earning $500,000 in show money.

05.02.26 - CHURCHILL DOWNS
Golden Tempo, a 23-1 long shot ridden by Jose Ortiz, won the 152nd Kentucky Derby on May 2, 2026, by a neck over Renegade at Churchill Downs, with a winning time of \(2:02.27\). Cherie DeVaux became the first female trainer to win the Kentucky Derby. The victory earned $3.1 million for the winner.

Regaled Strong 2nd In Grade 2 Azeri Stakes

03.07.26 Regaled, a 5-year-old mare trained by Whit Beckman, delivered a strong second-place finish in the 2026 Grade 2 Azeri Stakes at Oaklawn Park on March 7. Next for Regaled is the $1.25 million Apple Blossom Handicap (G1) April 11.

Solid Run for Ocelli in New Orleans

01.17.26 - FAIRGROUNDS RACE COURSE
Ocelli came on strong at the end put just fell short taking the 3rd spot in the Maiden Special Weight $60,000 Purse. 

Jolted Strong 2nd At Turfway Park

12.19.25 Jolted ran hard and finished a strong 2nd in the Maiden Special Weight on a very fast track. Was a nice finish to a solid year.

Regaled Shines At Breeders Cup $2,000,000 Distaff

Regaled Loves California and it showed on her biggest day and her biggest race yet, coming from last to first halfway through the race to show in a strong 3rd place finish in her first G1 Race.  Nitrogen held second by a half-length over Regaled, who rallied from far back to get third.
